From Red Team to FireAI: A Note from Our CTO

Our product is the result of several years of work on cybersecurity red teams and threat-intelligence teams, alongside large enterprise clients and cyberdefense organizations. This isn’t a founding myth written after the fact — it is literally where the questions FireAI tries to answer first came from.

Working on the ground, you learn quickly that a firewall only earns its reputation if it holds up against a real attacker, not just a theoretical checklist. We focused our energy and our deep, hands-on knowledge of low-level firewall systems — netfilter on Linux, PF (Packet Filter) on BSD, and SELinux’s (Security-Enhanced Linux) mandatory access control — on what actually makes a network defense hold, well beyond what a user ever sees on screen.

The problem is that this level of rigor is almost always sold at the cost of usability: powerful tools that are unreadable to anyone who isn’t a security engineer. Our goal with FireAI was to build the solution halfway between user-friendly, everyday ease of use and security that makes no compromise on substance. Finding that exact balance, without sacrificing one for the other, has been the entire job.

How FireAI and HisnLabs fit in

That balance — explain everything, hide nothing, but never make security the thing standing between you and your Mac — is the whole design brief behind FireAI.

FireAI is HisnLabs’ own product: an on-device AI firewall for Mac. It shows every connection your apps make, in plain language, and lets you decide what leaves your Mac — its AI runs locally, so your traffic is never sent to us or anyone else. HisnLabs’ security research team is the group that keeps that decision-making accurate: cataloguing which domains are ordinary telemetry versus a real product, tracking the country and network behind a connection, and training the on-device model (its Autopilot feature) on real traffic patterns, all without any of it leaving your Mac.

You can read the technical decisions behind it, or try FireAI for 17 days, at FireAI, by HisnLabs.
