# Pick the right security mode for where you are, and use the kill switch

> Pick the right FireAI security mode for where you are on your Mac, from home to a café to somewhere risky, and use the kill switch to cut the internet fast if you need to.

Match FireAI’s strictness to where you are, and know where the emergency stop is.

## Choose a mode

1. Open Protection.
2. Under “Where are you?”, pick the tile that fits: Home for your own network, Coffee shop for public Wi-Fi, Paranoid when you want the tightest defaults, or Under attack if you think you’re being targeted right now.
3. FireAI applies it immediately; your own rules and any explicit Allow for an app still win.

> **Note:** You can also say it to Ask FireAI, for example “go in coffee shop mode” or “go in paranoid mode”, from Home or the menu bar. To switch modes automatically by Wi-Fi network instead, see [places](https://hisnlabs.com/fireai/en/docs/rule-profiles-by-wifi).

## Use the kill switch

1. On the same page, find the Kill switch section.
2. Turn on Block all internet traffic. New connections outside your home or office network are refused; the section shows “The internet is blocked” while it’s active.
3. Turn it off the same way once you’re done — printers, shared drives and this Mac keep working the whole time.

> **Warning:** The kill switch only stops new connections; anything already connected keeps running until it closes on its own. It needs Protection to be on.
